Autograph letter signed, dated : Leipzig, 25 June 1841, to Julius Rietz in Düsseldorf, 1841 June 25.

Returning [not present] Rietz's Overture and [Altdeutscher] Schlachtgesang, saying he does not believe the latter can be shortened by a simple stroke [of the pen], that he has looked in vain for such places and is convinced that Rietz must do it himself (if indeed it can and should be done), adding that he agrees completely with Rietz about the three places in the Overture, suggesting that a few measures be cut near the beginning, mentioning Schumann, Beyer , Hofmeister, Schleinitz, Kistner, Breitkopf & Härtel, motets by Haydn, etc.
